KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Staley High School community is mourning the devastating loss of Brody Schleuger, a 17-year-old student who died Wednesday afternoon following a tragic motorcycle crash on Interstate 29 in Kansas City. According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers responded at approximately 4:11 p.m. to the southbound lanes of Interstate 29 near Northwest 64th Street after receiving reports of a serious traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a commercial vehicle.
Fatal Collision on Interstate 29
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that Brody was riding a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle southbound on I-29 when it collided with the rear of a Freightliner semi-truck towing an unloaded flatbed trailer.
The impact ejected Brody from the motorcycle, which caught fire shortly after the collision. Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that the driver of the semi-truck was not injured and remained at the scene, fully cooperating with investigators.
The crash prompted the closure of all southbound lanes of Interstate 29 near Northwest 64th Street for several hours as officers documented the scene, collected evidence, and cleared the roadway. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
