A82 Accident Today – Major Road Closed Near Onich Following Traffic Collision

ONICH, Scotland — A stretch of the A82 near Onich remained closed for several hours on Saturday following a traffic collision that prompted a large emergency response and caused significant disruption for motorists travelling through the Scottish Highlands.

The incident occurred on July 11 on the A82, approximately 10 miles south of Fort William. Traffic Scotland confirmed that the road was closed in both directions shortly after reports of the collision were received at around 2:50 p.m., allowing emergency crews to safely respond and manage the scene.

Firefighters from Fort William Fire Station were dispatched alongside other emergency services. Two fire appliances attended the incident before concluding their involvement later in the afternoon. Recovery teams remained at the location as work continued to remove damaged vehicles and assess the roadway before it could safely reopen.

Officials have yet to release full details about the collision. Preliminary information suggests that two vehicles may have been involved, although authorities have not confirmed the exact number of vehicles or whether anyone was injured.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and are expected to provide additional information once inquiries progress. Investigators will examine the scene and gather evidence to determine what led to the collision.

The closure created lengthy delays along the A82, one of the Highlands’ principal transport routes linking communities and popular tourist destinations. Drivers were advised to avoid the area where possible, use alternative routes, and expect longer travel times while emergency personnel and recovery operators completed their work.

As of late Saturday afternoon, the road remained closed in both directions, with Traffic Scotland continuing to monitor conditions and provide travel updates. Authorities have urged motorists to remain patient and follow official guidance until the incident has been fully cleared and the route is deemed safe for traffic.

Further updates are expected as police continue their investigation and emergency operations come to a close.
