Austin LeSane Obituary
The Columbia and Blythewood communities are mourning the tragic loss of Austin LeSane, a beloved entrepreneur, former football coach, mentor, and community leader who died in a head-on collision in Richland County, South Carolina, on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Known throughout the Midlands for his larger-than-life personality, welcoming smile, and unwavering commitment to young people, Austin leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond the football field or the family restaurant he helped build. His death has devastated friends, former players, customers, and loved ones who remember him as someone who invested wholeheartedly in others and never met a stranger.
A Life Dedicated to Community
Austin was widely recognized as one of the driving forces behind FishinFellas, a popular locally owned restaurant that became more than just a place to eat. Customers often returned not only for the food but for Austin himself, whose warmth, humor, and genuine hospitality made every guest feel like family.
Whether greeting regular customers by name, sharing conversations with first-time visitors, or supporting local events, Austin helped make FishinFellas a gathering place where friendships were formed and community connections flourished.
Friends say his generosity extended well beyond the restaurant doors, as he was always willing to help someone in need or lend encouragement to anyone facing difficult circumstances.
Mentor to Young Athletes
Before becoming known as a successful businessman, Austin made a lasting impact as a member of the coaching staff for Ridge View High School Football.
Working alongside former head coach Perry Parks, he helped restore the Blazers into one of the area’s respected football programs. Former players remember him as far more than a coach. He served as a mentor who encouraged discipline, accountability, confidence, and teamwork while teaching lessons that extended beyond athletics.
Following news of his passing, the Ridge View Football program honored Austin, recognizing the important role he played in rebuilding the program and his continued support of Ridge View Athletics throughout the years.
Fatal Crash Under Investigation
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on McCords Ferry Road near Lake Dogwood Circle in Richland County.
Investigators reported that Austin was driving a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup truck when it was involved in a head-on collision with a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Austin was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision.
